ROZPLATAJ MÓJ UMYSŁ DŁUŻEJ NIŻ TRZY DNI

Site-specific installation
cocoon [4 x 1,5 m, iron net, natural branches, balls of red and white wool], sound
woollen threads, canvasses with braided writings, oil and acrylic paintings

This site-specific installation reflects a universal discussion around woman as a subject and as a cultural construct affected by constantly recurrent arguments about her biological nature. This discussion is not new, but it became again present, especially in the context of contemporary political scene in Poland.
Work made inside the 14th century castle considers a medieval image of a woman, as much a saint as a prostitute, and it confronts the vision of silently weaving and waiting woman with contemporariness and modern debate. Installation has a very physical aspect, in which the process of making became a performative act of analysing this issue. It reveals the impossibility of understanding this idyllic image, neither through the mind, nor body.
All elements are connected by the sound of ‘The Spinner Girl’, Polish classical song by Stanislaw Moniuszko, which carries the notion of impatiently unfaithful woman. What is the ideal she is trying to betray?
