TILIA’S LAST DREAM
performance about an ambiguous and ever-changing relationship between humans and other forms of life.

Around the Linden tree (Tilia), through gesture (weaving a gardening rope between the branches and the trunk) and sound (comprising lyrics whispered and hummed by the performer, including „she looks as if she’s dreaming„) the Artist is telling an imagined story from the inner life of Tilia.

The story is inspired by the composition and shape of the tree, which evokes a body laid to sleep, a common motif on Classicist tombstones. The Artist will address the theme of death, whose intertwining with life is an ever-present element in nature and a reminder of the evolutionary balance.

The rope, made of plant fibers, takes a metaphorical implication. It is used in gardening to protect, secure, and shape the plant, but also, it evokes pressure, confinement, imposing form, and domination.

The performance undertakes the impossible task of giving voice to nature, reversing roles inside the Royal Garden, which is shaped according to the human vision. By creating a dialogue with the tree, the Artist raises questions about the possibility of forming new meanings. It is also an expression of hope in the face of a shared need for transformation in our understanding of the natural world.
